Caving

    Goal is to develop proficiency in
    • Personal safety and hazards in the cave environment
    • Cave ecology and leave no trace
    • Route-finding
    • Technical caving
    • Cave rescue

"Experience H2O"
Basic Swift Water Rescue

    Goal is to develop proficiency in
    • Personal safety in the swift water
    • Rescue environment
    • Understanding moving water dynamics
    • Identifying hazards in the swift water environment
    • Assessment of rescue options in a timely manner
    • Rescue team structure
    • Victim retrievals

"Bushwacking for Dummies"
Basic Navigation

    Goal is to develop proficiency in
    • Reading topographic maps
    • Land navigation by map and compass
    • Plotting latitude and longitude on topo maps
    • Entering coordinates into a GPS receiver
    • Use of a GPS receiver in land navigation

"Rock-n-Rope"
Rockclimbing and Basic Systems

    Goal is to develop proficiency in
    • Identifying the technical gear used in the vertical environment
    • Knot tying
    • Basic systems
    • Rockclimbing
    • Rappelling and ascending
    • Basic vertical rescue

    • Gear selection and packing
    • Trip planning

    • Basic avalanche awareness
    • Snow travel (snowshoes or skiis)

    • Basic winter survival

Wilderness First Aid

    Goal is to develop proficiency in
    • Patient assessment and vital signs
    • Splinting and spinal stabilization
    • Packaging and transport in a backcountry environment
    • SOAP format charting
    • Providing first-aid level care with limited equipment and delayed
    • Transport in extreme environments

Wilderness Survival

    Goal is to develop proficiency in
    • Staying positive to "stay alive"
    • Situation assessment
    • Survival priorities
    • Identifying resources for survival
    • Shelter building
    • Plant identification & water
    • Orienteering using resources
    • Using the environment, not fighting with it
    • Making it easier to be found

"X-Course"

    Goal is to experience a little of each course during the five weeks including
    • Rock Climbing
    • Caving
    • Skate Park tour of Greater Redding Area
    • Surf Trip to Cresent City, CA
    • Basic Swift Water Rescue
    • Basic Vertical Rescue

"Back to the Wild"
Wild Edibles

    Goal is to develop proficiency in
    • Identification of edible plants
    • Identification of poisonous plants
    • Safe preparation for consumption
    • Ssing the resources while respecting nature
